Patient Information about Woodfield Medical Centre as a Training Practice

Woodfield Medical Centre is a certified training facility for doctors specializing in general practice. We support doctors in various stages of training, including GP Registrars, Foundation Year 2 doctors, and Year 5 students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • GP Registrar: These doctors have extensive experience in hospitals and are now expanding their skills to become GPs.
  • Foundation Year 2 (FY2): Recently qualified doctors who are exploring potential specialties. They spend four months at our practice as part of their Foundation training.
  • HYMS Year 5: Medical students in their final year of training.

Our practice has several experienced GPs who are certified trainers, qualified to supervise and support trainee doctors in a clinical setting.

What to Expect During an Appointment with a Trainee Doctor:

  1. Supervision: Each trainee is assigned a dedicated GP who acts as their trainer within the practice.
  2. Debriefing: Trainees have regular debrief sessions with a senior GP after every clinic to ensure the highest standards of care.
  3. Quality of Care: GP Registrars provide a level of service comparable to that of any fully qualified GP. If you have concerns, please discuss them with our staff.
  4. Consultation Recordings: GP Registrars may be assessed on their consultation skills through recorded sessions. You may be asked to consent to this process. If you agree, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form at reception. The recordings are strictly for educational purposes. If your consultation is being recorded without prior consent, please notify the doctor immediately.
  5. HYMS Year 5 Students: These students receive more in-depth guidance. Their consultations may be longer, and a GP will join them in the latter part of the appointment.
  6. Observing Students: HYMS Year 3 and nursing students also observe consultations to enhance their learning. If a student is present during your appointment, you’ll be introduced to them and asked if you’re comfortable with their attendance.

Your cooperation in helping train the next generation of doctors is greatly appreciated, and we thank you for supporting their learning journey.
